Modernist or Brutalist? Seems there’s two school

Modernist or Brutalist? Seems there’s two schools of thought - what do you think? This is Manchester’s 1960s ‘Toast Rack’ building. In a former life it was the Hollings Campus of Manchester Metropolitan University taking that name forward from the Hollings Building of the Domestic Trades College. Architect: Leonard Cecil Howitt, a Londoner by birth, he made his mark in Manchester pre-WW1 in the city’s architect’s office. He studied architecture at Liverpool University qualifying in 1925. Early jobs included being part of the team who designed the Mersey Tunnel. Post WW2 he was appointed City Architect for Manchester, a role he continued in until he retired in 1961.
