Trellick Tower 2021 Campaign
#SaveTrellickHallofFame
On February 18th 2021 the C20 Society published the following statement:
‘We continue to oppose current proposals for the redevelopment of Ernö Goldfinger’s Trellick and Edenham Estate in North Kensington, best known as the Grade II* listed Trellick Tower.
Although the most recent version of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Edenham scheme has slightly reduced the number of extra flats, it still includes a new 16-storey tower by Haworth Tompkins – between Trellick itself and the Grade II listed low-rise part of the estate.
Local campaigners www.instagram.com/savetrellickhalloffame/ are also concerned about the demolition of the children’s playing area, the football pitch, the walkways and the Graffiti Hall of Fame at the base of the tower, which has hosted numerous graffiti competitions, exhibitions and jams.
A petition they launched against the scheme objects it on the grounds of “erosion of local colour and historic culture of the area” as well as loss of outdoor play space for local residents and unwelcome gentrification.
Our (the C20 Society) remit is more tightly drawn, but if you would like to sign the petition, the details are available here
