Pierre Jeanneret

Architect and furniture designer, Pierre Jeanneret worked for many years in close collaboration with his cousin Charles-Edouard Jeanneret  ‘Le Corbusier’. In 1922 they opened their Paris atelier at 35 Rue de Sèvres, joined in 1927 by Charlotte Perriand, the practice was highly successful, closing in 1937.

Founder member of the 1929 French Union of Artists (UAM).

The Jeanneret cousins split along political lines during WW2, Corbu working for the Vichy government and Pierre joining the resistance.  Post-war they worked together again on a major project, the creation of the city of Chandigarh in India – with Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew.

After the completion of construction, Pierre was named Chief Architect of Chandigarh
