Farkas Ferenc Molnár
Farkas Ferenc Molnár 1897 – 1945
Born in Pécs in Hungary, Molnár began his career studying art and graphic design. In 1921 he moved to Dessau to study at the Bauhaus from 1921-1925. During this period he worked in the architecture practice of the Bauhaus director, Walter Gropius.
Whilst a Bauhaus student, Farkas Molnár created the Red Cube, Der Rote Würful, displayed in the model of a house which formed part of the famed 1923 Bauhaus exhibition.
Molnár returned to Hungary and created CIAM (suggested by Gropius), becoming head of its Hungarian delegation. The founding president was Karl Moser.
He built many villas as private commissions in Hungary. In 1934 he went into partnership with Marcel Breuer and Jozsef Fischer before Breuer left for England a year later.
He remained in Hungary and died when a bomb hit his home at the end of WW2
