Ulrich Franzen
Ulrich Joseph Franzen 1921-2017
German-American modernist architect. He moved to the US with his family in 1936. He studied architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and interned with I.M.Pei. He later worked for Marcel Breuer until he established his own practice in 1055.
Particular works of note include Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, which is said to nod to Breuers Frick Madison and the Philip Morris Building in New York, both excellent examples of his deep understanding of brutalism and functionalism.
